Charles Blakeman

Painter, stained-glass artist (1907-after 1987)

Blakeman grew up in Chipping Campden, and as a young man worked in the stained-glass studio of Paul Woodroffe. Then, in 1926 he went to work for F. L. Griggs, helping him to print his etchings. So he had a strong Cotswold/Arts and Crafts pedigree. In his later career he worked in London and built up an impressive body of work in stained glass, metal and stone. His panel Summer, shown on the home page, is small in scale but typically powerful.

We want to encourage work on this little-known but talented figure.

See Blakeman's page in the Makers section of this site here.
